While traveling to the not-so-distant lands of Canada to ring in the new year, I had an epiphany. One that shook me to the core. ‘I live in New York City but I don’t really live like I’m in New York City.’ Does that make sense? I grew up here and most times it’s hard for me to grasp how awesome this city is. I take it for granted. So many of my friends come from all over the world just to be in the great CITY to pursue their dreams and sometimes I feel odd because I only came back to NYC after college because it was all I knew and it just also happened to best place to begin my career.
Okay back to my epiphany, there I was in Canada with my husband and the Taylors, a couple we are pretty close with, when I realized, I’m living it up in Canada (going to museums, shopping, eating at really good restaurants and being intentional about creating a memorable experience). In fact, I’ve done this on all of our overseas trips and I barely do that here in the city. Well I do enjoy the city but not with the same kind of intensity that I felt when in Canada or in another country.
So with 2011 just six weeks old, I’m making this year all about adventure, trying new things and really exploring my own backyard because after all this is New York City.
Here’s to a great year!
