I can’t believe, this is only the end of day 2! I feel like I’ve been here for weeks!! The students here are simply amazing. The hugs, smiles, holding hands has been refreshing. So many wonderful personalities here. Being here makes me realize how little interactions I have with children back home. The kids are keeping me sharp and on my toes. I LOVE it!
Today, I held my photography workshop for 10 boys ages 7-9 (yeah, I know). I taught them the basics of using a point and shoot camera. At one point, I was teaching composition and had the students make the “camera frame” with their fingers. You know, when you make an “L” shape with your fingers and put them together to create a box. We played around with angles, “zooming in and out” (which consisted of walking up to someone’s face to take the imaginary photo). Then I unleashed the students to take photos of what they like. When they came back the students and I printed the edits on a portable hp printer that I brought in. We hung the photos a wall outside in the courtyard and held a “critic”. Oh, I can’t wait to post what they came back with! I gain such a great insight to these students and what they connected with.
All in all, I’m having a marvelous time with this trip and my commitment to making this program succeed has quadruple. LEAD Uganda really is a unique program and I’m glad we all get to be a part of it.
